Leiden Event 2026 – Milestone Conference ITC Leiden

Celebrating 50 Years of Teaching Excellence

version: 26 03 02

ITC Leiden, in collaboration with the University of Leiden, organizes a combined ITC alum meeting

and a symposium in Leiden on 28-29 August 2026 to celebrate 50 years of teaching international

tax law by Kees van Raad.

The event consists of two parts:

A. ITC alum meeting: sessions in the mornings of Friday 28 August and of Saturday 29 August.

The topics that are being considered for these sessions to which all ITC alums are invited, include:

Friday morning: 30 Years of Case Law & Tax Treaty Interpretation (by Johann Hattingh)

Saturday morning: Artificial Intelligence and Taxation (by Roustam Vakhitov).

For Saturday afternoon we have planned a social activity. When the weather is nice (you may

remember the unpredictability of the weather in the Netherlands) our plan is to go rowing and

canoeing. Many of you will remember from the Spring outing we had in most ITC years that we rode

our bikes from Leiden to a goat farm near Zoeterwoude (see https://hetgeertje.nl/) where, after lunch,

we engaged in a one-hour rowing trip/contest in the beautiful countryside.

We want to relive that experience again. In case of adverse weather, we plan instead to go to the

renowned private modern art museum Voorlinden in Wassenaar (see https://www.voorlinden.nl/) that

was opened some years ago.

On Saturday evening, a dinner party for all ITC alums attending is being planned in one of the

restaurants in the center of Leiden.

B. A symposium hosted by ITC Leiden together with the University of Leiden to celebrate Kees van

Raad’s 50 years of teaching international tax law is scheduled for the Friday afternoon. Kees was

hired in 1975 by Leiden University, and after the conclusion of his ITC Leiden teaching in 2020, he

has continued lecturing, mostly in foreign countries.

The symposium will feature presentations on developments in international tax law by some of the

most prominent of your teachers at ITC Leiden. In addition to the ITC alums, academic and

professional friends of Kees are being invited for the symposium. At the end of the afternoon Kees

invites every one attending the symposium to a reception and dinner party at the grounds of the

country home that he built some eight years ago near Zoeterwoude (photo below):
